Usui Shiki Ryoho (the Usui System of Natural Healing), known as Reiki, is a form of healing and spiritual awakening, received and developed 100 years ago by a Japanese man, Mikao Usui, and brought to the West via Hawaii in 1937. The Japanese word Reiki can be translated as 'universal or spiritually guided life force' and the Usui System is a way of working with Reiki for healing of self and others. The word healing is used in the sense of regaining harmony and wholeness and Usui Shiki Ryoho addresses the whole person, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. A system of self development that brings you closer to understanding and experiencing your natural being. That natural state of being is both spiritual and physical at the same time. Reiki gives you experience and information that allows you to create the life you love, through understanding the nature of energy and how it relates to you in every aspect of your life. At its heart, Reiki is all about you and understanding your true nature. The origins of Reiki are Buddhist, stating that the path to happiness comes through understanding our own spiritual being. Dr. Usui also stated that Reiki was about the understanding that the power to heal and be happy is within us all, that we ourselves have the answers.

Reiki is passed on from Master to student during a series of attunements or initiations. The attunements open the crown, heart and palm chakras, through which the Reiki energy can flow. The attunement process is essential for a person to be connected to Reiki - it is NOT something we can learn from the internet or a book. All practitioners must be attuned through a Reiki Master with direct lineage to Mikao Usui. Sue is a member of the UK Reiki Federation and, as such, abides by their Code of Ethics and Best Practice.
